EEND675- Artifact 1: Multimedia Project

The first artifact I chose for EEND675C was the Multimedia Project. I selected this project to add to my portfolio, because I know I can use within my classroom immediately, and as a result my students' will benefit directly.  As mentioned previously, I am moving grade levels this fall (going from second grade to kindergarten). I am in the process of learning not only kindergarten’s Common Core State Standards, but the curriculum our district uses as well. Fortunately, I was able to attend the Professional Development on our new Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum, and meet with my kindergarten team to discuss how we would implement this curriculum within our classrooms. With that being said, I utilized those conversations to create a Google Slide presentation related to the first SEL lesson: Learning to Listen to my Multimedia Project. 

The slides in this presentation accompany the first lesson, and will be teacher directed. Each of the slides corresponds with a specific component of the lesson and helps to pre-teach or reinforce the concepts within the lesson. I was able to add several videos to help remind or show students: what it means to follow directions, what a rule is, and how to be a good listener. I will admit I was already familiar with Google Slides, however, it was challenging to make sure I was citing all of my resources appropriately, and searching for free images/videos. Prior to starting this course, I did not spend a lot of time thinking about whether or not an image I was using was appropriately cited, or free to include within a document. This is a practice I need to become more vigilant about, while it may be more difficult (and time consuming), it is important that I am setting a good example for my students. Again, as a digital citizen, I need to model these skills daily for my students, so they become a habit not only for myself, but my students as well.
